The countdown to the Boxing Day Dip is on

The countdown to the Boxing Day Dip is on…

This morning representatives from the Cheshire Home and Skipton International braved the choppy Cobo waters. They were joined by charity swimmer, Adrian Sarchet ‘Sea Donkey’ who will be starting the dip on Boxing Day.

This year’s Boxing Day Dip will take place at 11am. The tide times have been duly considered a this is the best time to allow space for everyone to congregate on the beach before running towards the sea at the allotted time.

Over 2,000 swimmers turned out on Cobo beach last year, some in fancy dress, and the organisers gave out mince pies, mulled wine and hot drinks.
All funds raised go towards the upkeep of the Guernsey Cheshire Home, where annual costs are currently around £1,300,000. With no States’ funding, the home is entirely reliant on fund raising and donations.

For the second year running the event is being sponsored by Skipton International, who have a proud history of supporting local community events such as the Boxing Day Dip.

Jim Coupe, Managing Director at Skipton International, said: “As a locally-based bank, Skipton is proud to support community events such as these, making a real difference to the work that the charity can undertake. We are privileged to support the work done at the Guernsey Cheshire Home and can’t wait to participate in this year’s Dip.”

Nic Mountain, Manager at Guernsey’s Cheshire Home commented: “The Boxing day Dip is something of a Guernsey tradition and the sight of thousands of swimmers running towards the sea in their Santa hats is quite special. We are thrilled that Skipton is continuing to partner with us, and, with their valuable support, we look forward to raising much-needed funds for the Cheshire Home.”

The Boxing Day Dip will take place at Cobo Beach on 26 December 2022 at 11am. Donations to the Guernsey Cheshire Home can be made at: www.giving.gg, and swimmers are encouraged to bring along a cash donation or their card for donations to be taken on the day.
