Thousands once again turned out in force at Cobo Beach for the 25th Anniversary of the Skipton Boxing Day Dip, with early indicators showing that over £10,000 has been raised in support of the Guernsey Cheshire Home.
Festive fancy dress, families and friends, and local businesses all contributed to the lively atmosphere at this milestone edition of one of the island’s best loved community traditions.
Charlotte Dunsterville, Chief Commercial Officer at Skipton International, said:
“The Skipton Boxing Day Dip is a longstanding part of the festive season and continues to provide vital support for the Guernsey Cheshire Home. As a local mortgages and savings provider, we are proud to support an event that brings the island together, and its 25th year highlights just how established it has become within the community.”
This year’s Dip also featured a fun moment from local actor Dean Hollingsworth, who arrived at Cobo Beach dressed as the blue faced Karfelon Android from Doctor Who. Taking part in his first Boxing Day Dip, he said: “I went in looking blue and while the makeup came off in the sea, I certainly felt blue afterwards. It was cold! But what a great cause to support and what a brilliant event to be part of.”
Rob Shepherd, Chairman of the Guernsey Cheshire Home, added: “This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and reaching the 25-year milestone makes it even more meaningful. We are deeply grateful to Skipton International for their continued sponsorship and to everyone who took part, donated or volunteered. The funds raised will make a lasting impact on the vital care we provide.”
The Guernsey Cheshire Home relies entirely on community support and fundraising to deliver essential care for islanders living with severe physical disabilities, including multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and permanent paralysis.
