Guernsey Super Vets v England Amateur over-50s
Friday 27th July
KGV – 6:30 kick-off.

Following on from their success against Jersey in May the Super Vets will play England over 50s this Friday (27th) looking to maintain their unbeaten record.

The Super Vets played England over-55s in their inaugural game last November, winning the fixture 5-3. On Friday they face the slightly younger England over-50s side.

Guernsey Cheshire Home Chairman Rob Shepherd is looking forward to being involved, if he makes the final squad! “It’s great fun, the formula allows people to continue playing football long after they thought they could, it’s a good standard. It’s a competitive environment where we can really push ourselves.”

“It’s really important to believe you can still play and stay active. That’s where this project links with the Cheshire Home, the Home is about empowering people that have much more serious disabilities than age to do as much as they can do with their lives, we facilitate opportunity and activity to allow them to fulfil their potential.”

Guernsey Super Vets Chairman, Paul Ockleford has been delighted with the uptake since the first game last year, “We started with sixteen players but we now have 30-40 people we can call upon.”

“The football has provided some of our players with a platform to get back doing something, active and with others, its helped one of our group who was suffering with depression so that’s been a real positive. We have a very good camaraderie.”

Paul explained that he expects the game to be competitive, “It will be extremely competitive, no one steps over the line and doesn’t want to win. We have an unbeaten record so will take it very seriously.” Concluded Paul.

The game will take place on Friday 27th at KGV with a 6:30 kick-off. Entry is free but please do make a donation either by buying a programme or via one of our collection buckets.

The fixture is being kindly sponsored by Brehon Chartered Accountants, our continued thanks to go to the Ross Gower Group, the official main sponsor of the Guernsey Super Vets.

Thanks also go to Rabeys Commercial Vehicles who have kindly lent us a minibus to take the England team to the game and Intersport Guernsey for supplying the match balls.

Please do show your support it promises to be a good game. See you on Friday!

Come on Guernsey! 🇬🇬
