This year marks a remarkable milestone as the island celebrates 25 years of the Skipton Boxing Day Dip.
On Friday 26 December at 10:30am, crowds will gather at Cobo Bay for one of the island’s most-loved events. Many will brave the chilly waters, while others come along to cheer them on and soak up the festive atmosphere – all in support of the Guernsey Cheshire Home, which provides essential care for islanders with severe physical disabilities.
Susan Fouquier, Chief Executive Officer of Skipton International, said:
“Supporting the Skipton Boxing Day Dip is a fantastic way to give back and champion the incredible work of the Guernsey Cheshire Home. It’s an occasion that unites people of all ages, and we’re proud to play a part in raising vital funds for such an important cause.”
This year’s event promises another lively morning filled with festive spirit and community pride. Volunteers will be out in force with donation buckets and card machines, and swimmers are encouraged to contribute at least £5 each, a small gesture that collectively makes a big difference. After the Dip, participants can warm up with complimentary mince pies and mulled wine, kindly provided for all those taking part.
Since its humble beginnings in 2000, the Dip has grown into a cherished tradition. Last year alone, thousands turned out and helped raise more than £12,000. This year, the goal is to beat that total as we mark a quarter of a century.
The Cheshire Home has proudly partnered with Skipton International since 2021, and together they’ve helped the Boxing Day Dip continue to grow into one of Guernsey’s biggest and best-loved community fundraisers.
Rob Shepherd, Chair of the Guernsey Cheshire Home said:
“We are thrilled that Skipton International continues to support us, and we look forward to marking 25 years and raising much-needed funds for the Cheshire Home. The money raised will make a lasting impact, helping us maintain the vital care we provide.”
As this year marks a special milestone, we’re inviting the community to help make it truly memorable. Do you have old photos, videos, or stories from past Dips? Whether you joined the very first event in 2000 or took part more recently, the team would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with maryellen.carter@cheshirehome.gg.
The Guernsey Cheshire Home will also be selling a special 25th Anniversary Boxing Day Beanie Hat, available to purchase from the Tourist Information Centre in the Market for £10. All proceeds go directly to supporting the Home.
